Frequently Asked Questions (Soccer)
How old does my child have to be before he/she can play soccer at Ascension?
Our Training League is geared toward teaching young children how to play soccer. Players must be 4 years old prior to August 1. We generally want Kindergarten players to be entering kindergarten in the fall (2008) and Pre-K players to be entering kindergarten in the fall of the following year (2009). But you as a parent should make sure your child is ready to play organized sports, so he/she will have a good first experience.
Why is there a Family Fee?
The family fee is part of the fee to play soccer at Ascension. It is only charged once per family as a discount to families who have more than one player in the program. This is one of several pricing models that sports organizations use to discount multiple registrations for a single family.
What is Training League?
The Training League is Pre-K through 1st grade teams and is a league of all Ascension teams. Teams play with fewer players and smaller fields (see Training League link for more information). All games are played at CVAC, so parents and players do not have to travel to 'away' fields. All players receive a trophy or medal at the end of the year for participating in this league.
What is CYC League?
The CYC League is 2nd grade through High School teams. 2nd and 3rd Grade teams play 8v8 while 4th Grade and above play 11v11. Games are played in a league that competes against other league (non-Ascension) teams. Teams will have 'home' (CVAC) games and 'away' games. Only teams that win their division will receive a trophy.
When will I be contacted by my coach?
The coach meetings for both the CYC League (2nd Grade - High School) and Training League (Pre-K - 1st Grade) will be held in mid-July. At this time, the coaches will receive preliminary rosters. You should expect to hear from your coach by the end of July or the beginning of August.
What should I do if I do not hear from my coach?
If you do not hear from your coach by August 1st, please e-mail your grade coordinator at the e-mail address supplied on the Soccer Coordinator tab of the main soccer page.
When does the season start?
The season starts the weekend after Labor Day.
When does the season end?
The season generally ends about mid-November. Training league runs for 10 weeks, so it is over the second week in November.
When will games be played?
Training league games are always played on Saturday (from 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM) or Sunday afternoon (from Noon - 5:30 PM). Most trophy league games follow this schedule, but there may be a few week night games.
When will we have practices?
Most coaches practice once each week until daylight savings time ends. The coach generally picks the day and time of practices.
